Fort High Ficton Overview 5 Months ago Karma: 1
So, what is this crazy thing we call the Hex Ficton? There's a handy overview in our new release, Weird Times at Charles Fort High. Here it is, absolutely free of charge:

Charles Fort High School exists in an extended
game universe known as the "Hex Ficton." A
ficton, as explained in QAGS Second Edition, is a
combination of setting elements and "rules of
reality" in a fictional universe. The Hex Ficton is
the fictional universe that contains most of the
settings described in the RPGs from Hex Games.
While experience with these games and settings is
certainly not necessary to play and enjoy Weird
Times at Charles Fort High, this brief overview of
important people, places, and things in the Hex
Ficton may give players and GMs a better feel for
the weird and wacky world in which Fort High
exists.

Eris: Eris, the Greek goddess of Discord, was
the Earth’s most powerful trickster god. Sometime
after the Trojan War, Eris decided to leave this
universe and create her own world, Qerth, in a
convoluted attempt to get some really good
cheese. Eris’s departure from local reality seemed
to have a detrimental effect on Earth’s weirdness
level and caused much of the world’s
supernatural and paranormal phenomenon to go
on the down-low for centuries. Thankfully,
humanity is talented at creating its own weirdness
and eventually recovered from the loss of the
flamboyant goddess. (Qerth)

Galaxikhan: In 1958, a giant energy-eating
space monster called Galaxikhan rampaged across
California and through downtown San Francisco.
A rag-tag group of monster-hunters known as MForce
defeated Galaxikhan by summoning an
immortal storm dragon known as Typhonis to do
battle with the alien menace. This highly-televised
event threw the supernatural to the forefront of
humanity’s collective radar and made M-Force
international heroes. (Galaxikhan Attacks!)

M-Force: Like most countries, the United
States maintains an Official Monster List. This is a
list of predatory monsters that the government
says are legal to kill (vampires, zombies,
hecklestimps, demons, and other dangerous
creatures). As such, various civilian freelance
monster-hunting organizations have sprung up
across the country. The largest and most popular
of these is M-Force. M-Force is a nation-wide
organization of citizens and "normal folk"
dedicated to protecting humanity and educating
the public about the monster threat. M-Force is a
force for good in the Hex Ficton, and members are
widely regarded as heroes. Fort High is one of
many high schools to sponsor a Junior M-Force
club. (QAGS 2nd Edition, Galaxikhan Attacks!)

The Herrick Agency: There are some cases
that normal detective agencies just can't handle.
That's where the Herrick Agency comes in. When
your wife has been kidnapped by Babylonian
clown cultists or you need to strong-arm your late
uncle's ghost to find out where Grandma hid the
will, you call Herrick. The Herrick Agency has
been based out of Manhattan since the 1930s.
(QAGS 2nd Edition, Spooky)

The League of Alphabetical Madmen: The
League is a force of improbable evil composed of
mad scientists, evil super-geniuses, and criminal
masterminds. The roster of the League of
Alphabetical Madmen rotates fairly frequently,
but there are always 26 members, and they are all
named after a letter of the alphabet. The League's
secret base is somewhere in Alaska, and the
current leader of the LoAM is the Despicable
Doctor D. (QAGS 2nd Edition)

The Acolytes of Leviathan: Billions of years
ago, a primordial space monster known as
Leviathan was banished from the universe. With
the departure of this mighty chaotic entity, order
finally established a foothold on the universe, and
reality was created. The Acolytes of Leviathan are
a cabal of evil cultists and arcane nihilists
dedicated to the resurrection of Leviathan. By
returning their banished elder god to the universe,
they hope to destroy all creation and return the
cosmos to its original state of primordial chaos.
The Acolytes of Leviathan count several
accomplished sorcerers among their ranks, and
their likewise-talented children may or may not
find their way into the Paradigm School Program.
(Spooky)

The Universal Rasslin' League: The URL is
the world's largest professional wrestling
franchise. It televises multiple shows per week
and produces several sold-out pay-per-view
events each year. The current URL stable includes
superstars like The Patriot and Loco Gigantes.
Owned and managed by the eccentric Mr. Colin
Thomas, the URL is the most exciting
phenomenon in sports entertainment. (Colin
Thomas Presents: Rasslin’)

That's the first time that Eris has been tied in with the world's overall weirdness, by the way. Interesting idea.

The Herrick Agency first appeared in the out-of-print, highly collectible adventure Mars and Venus at War.

Some of the Martian & Venusian names in Fort High are homages to "Mars & Venus at War" by the way.

I still maintain that "Mars & Venus" at war is fully worthy of an update and PDF re-release.

You know, the stuff in the first post would probably make nice additions to the Wiki.

You think so? I've found the most recent version of the text. One of these days I'll look it over and see how much of an update it would need.
