Now that you mention it, I think Grant did bring Barda and some other New God into the line-up.

Let's see if I can remember . . .

Superman = Zeus
Wonder Woman = Hera
Batman = Hades
Aquaman = Poseidon
Flash = Hermes
Green Lantern = Apollo
Huntress = Artemis
Steel = Hephaestus
Plastic Man = Dionysus
Orion = Ares
Barda = Demeter
Martian Manhunter = Athena?

I know that Orion was added to be Ares, since he is a god of war. I think Barda was added to be Demeter, maybe, though she ended up being much more warlike. And that leaves Martian Manhunter as Athena . . . well, she's the goddess of wisdom, and he's wise, so maybe that could work.

Hey, I left out Aphrodite. I think maybe Barda was Aphrodite, because at the time she was like a happy housewife? But it quickly became apparent that wasn't a good match.

And I notice we've drifted away from Josh's original topic. So, back to the fantasy pantheon . . . have you given any more thought to this, Josh? I notice that these gods are all heroic and pro-humanity. Are there evil gods as well, and if so, what kind of role do they play?

I had debated on making a pantheon of evil gods based on supervillains, but I decided against it for two main reasons.

1) Arbitrarily making a bunch of evil gods seemed to fall into that "forced classification" thing I had mentioned earlier.

2) Making a team of evil gods based on Lex Luthor, Black Manta, and Sonar pushed even my admittedly generous level of tolerance for the ludicrous.

Instead, following along with an idea I had earlier, the forces of evil and darkness are represented by the "Old Gods" or the "Dead Gods." These are the nameless, malignant, Lovecrafty gods of fear that held the world in thrall for millennia. This changed about---oh, let's say--only two generations ago, when this new pantheon came to the world from "somewhere else" and laid the smack down on the Old Gods.

This idea appeals to me because I like the idea of playing in this kind of "flux" period where humanity and friends are coming out of a dark period into a new dawn of heroism. It also leaves room for mystery and conspiracy as some characters may start to wonder "where did these new gods come from anyway, and what's their real agenda?"

I like the idea of playing in the age of myth, only a couple of generations after the gods established order in the world. Very different feel from the average fantasy RPG's "like medieval Europe only not" setting.
