ok, went to go see the new M. Night movie. liked it a lot, but figured out the "twist" before they even mentioned it. some very cool things in the movie. but don't expect the thist to be mind bending like some of his other ones.
also for you zooey fans, ( i know you're out there) she's as cute as ever.
I'm sick and tired of M. Night's twists, and have a feeling I figured this one out based on the trailer. I could just ask you, but I'm torn.
-I want to give the movie my $8 because it stars Zooey and Marky Mark, both of whom (strangely in the Marky Mark case) should work more.
-I want to just find out the twist and save the $8 because by paying to see this movie I might be encouraging M. Night to make more shitty movies with twist endings.
For the time being, I think I'll avoid spoilers on the assumption that if M. Night Shamalamadingdong gets too powerful, Marky Mark and Zooey Deschannel will be able to team up and defeat him.
i will try to be as vague about this as possible without giving too much away
in the beginning, there is marky mark, who is a science teacher, he is lecturing about a certain species of insect, and that the disappearance of this insect on a global basis is a major issue. well, what is it that this insect does? and what is it that this insect does it to? there's your twist. that's the culpret.
have to walk backwords now and get ran over by a semi-truck

for those of you who wish NOT TO FIND OUT about the Happening Twist. TURN AWAY NOW!!!!!!!!!!
I saw the movie last night too. I was horribly disappointed. The main reason was I didn't like the explanation of what caused "The Happening". I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy into the premise of the movie. I also had very little empathy for the main characters of Mark/Zooey.
My main complaint though was that I'm convinced M. Night went for an R rating simply for the shock factor. M. showed several gory deaths that really didn't do anything except try to provoke shock in the viewer without advancing the plot (and as said earlier, the plot premise is weak).
I kept hoping that I was wrong about the premise. Maybe M. was doing a classic bait and switch as there was enough elements present that there were a couple of ideas possible. Heck, even when the cause was explained, my first reaction was disbelief, as in "He can't be serious? This is the cause of the Happening? OMFG!"
Steve, and for anyone else, on the fence about seeing this movie-- do yourself a favor and don't go. If you have to see this movie (as I did) for the curiosity factor and on the hopes that its better than expected, at least save yourself some money and go to a discount theater or an afternoon showing.
Really disappointing and bad movie, even with the good performance by Wahlberg. I worry that this may be M. Night's last movie and part of me is thinking good riddance. I disliked the movie that much.
i agree that m. didn't go directly for the r rating, not did the deaths actually move the story along, but it was just the fact that m. night was trying to be more artsy in his photography, such as the part where individuals are falling from the construction site. and honestly, without the screaming, the deaths soon become commonplace in the movie
anyway, i'll give m. the benefit of the doubt, and hope he makes something groundbreaking the next time around.
