Sector 13 is a sample sci-fi ficton presented in QAGS: Rocket Jocks.

Sector 13 is a sci-fi setting inspired by pulp adventures stories, action movies, more than a few cartoons, Crosby/Hope road movies, and a little bit of the classic Western. The setting should have the feel of the “old fashioned” future—rocket ships, ray guns, and robots. It is a “soft” science-fiction setting, meaning it ignores hard science and physics in favor of adventure and fun. Sector 13 itself is a vast swath of frontier space that was, until recently, ignored by most of the rest of the galaxy. The sector is home to thousands of planets with hundreds of different alien races and cultures.
